Majorca is such a classic destination for a sun holiday. The gorgeous bays (or “calas”) shelter snow-white beaches, turquoise waters invite for a refreshing swim and the Mediterranean climate is enough to leave you feeling on cloud 9. But today I’d like to take you away from the usual tourist hot spots and explore what is easily one of the island’s most beautiful places…

Without a doubt, the small village of Deià counts as one of Majorca’s most beautiful holiday spots. Situated on a hill at the edges of the Tramuntana Mountains on Majorca’s northwest coast between Valldemossa and Sóller, this picturesque village is the perfect place to really take things at your own pace and soak up the incredible charm and atmosphere. Imagine for a moment that you’ve rented a pretty Majorcan finca, surrounded by lush olive trees in the garden and views of the sea off on the horizon. After breakfast, you walk leisurely to the magical bay, Cala Deià, and enjoy an afternoon at one of Majorca’s most beautiful beaches… The peace and quiet of this village ensure you’ll get that perfect holiday feeling, believe me!

Deià – Majorca’s artists’ village

With around 700 residents, Deià is not only one of the smallest towns on Majorca, but also one of the most beautiful. Many famous artists, writers and actors have bought houses here since the beginning of the 20th century, including Robert Graves, Pablo Picasso, Michael Douglas, and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. This fact has given this picture-perfect place the reputation of being Majorca’s artists’ village’. You only have to walk along the mountainside with a view over the sea to know exactly why so many visitors flock to this chic holiday village. Here and there, you’ll catch a glimpse of a small hotel between the rows of splendid holiday homes and lovingly decorated cafés and restaurants. Even today, Deià is a place which the rich and famous still like to call their home.

Pure tranquillity

If you spend your holiday in Deià, you’ll soon fall under the spell of this small town. Surrounded by glorious nature, you can relax in the small but beautiful Cala Deià. You won’t find a powder-white sandy beach here. Instead, there is an enchanting natural bay, which is dotted with olive trees. If you’d like to see more of the idyllic surroundings, then I’d recommend a short hike through the greenery as this always guarantees breath-taking views.

In the town itself, the Son Marroig House Museum, the pretty Church of Sant Joan Batista, and the Robert Graves Museum are particularly worth a visit. The latter was once the home of the famous author Robert Graves. He lived in Deià from 1929 until his death in 1985. Pretty stone buildings adorned with flowers, which are usually chic boutiques or cosy cafés, and the gorgeous smell of lemon trees and roses round off your small tour of Deià perfectly.

The most beautiful accommodation in Deià

Has looking at these amazing pictures left you wanting more? Do you want to visit this place during your next holiday to Majorca, take a stroll through its winding lanes, and see the indescribable beauty of this romantic village for yourself? Well then, let’s go! Grab your rental car and visit this charming village, which is only 45 minutes away by car from Palma’s airport. I’ve already found the most beautiful accommodation for you. There’s something for everyone!

In Deià, even if there aren’t countless hotels and holiday apartments, the few that are here are even more beautiful for it. What about the 5-star Belmond La Residencia, which won the Traveller’s Choice Award in 2016? The 4-star Hotel Sa Pedrissa can also guarantee amazing views thanks to its location on the hill. A stay in the top-rated 3-star Hotel D’Es Puig is a little cheaper but no less beautiful.

If you’re someone who prefers to make themselves at home in a private property, then you’ll quickly be able to find something on Airbnb. How does a wonderful villa with a private pool and sea views sound to you? Take a look at the pictures and you’ll see what I’m talking about!
