As you know, I feature plenty of family holidays to The Algarve. It’s one of the best places to take the whole gang, and there’s always plenty going on for you to get involved in. I thought I’d suggest five of the best, so you can make this year’s Summer holiday one to remember…

There’s nothing like some time with the whole family… getting into the Summer spirit and just embracing a whole change of scenery. So here are my suggestions if you’re lucky enough to be heading off to the Algarve this Summer :D

My list of the top family attractions in the Algarve
Luxury Praia do Vau resort area, Algarve, Portugal

Zoomarine Algarve

This theme park showcasing seal & dolphin shows, plus an aquarium and sandy beach is bound to be a fun day out for all the family. The little ones can let off some steam on the slide and in the wave pool, and its bound to make The Algarve a holiday they’ll never forget. It’s so much more than sun and sand, and no one appreciates that more than the kids… so make it a good one for them! This is actually one of the most renowned family attractions in The Algarve so it’s a must!

Quad Ventura

Want to add a bit of adventure to your holiday? This is a great way to see the nature of The Algarve while still making it an enjoyable holiday for all ages. You can drive your own quad or travel as a passenger, that part is up to you. But, obviously, you’ll need to be in possession of a driver’s license to drive, and over the age of 7 to travel as a passenger… so just keep that in mind – it’s not something to take the super young ones to! ;) You’ll be taken on an excursion of so many sights, stopping off at a traditional Potuguese cafe during the tour, and even be treated to a refreshing drink. It just doesn’t get much more exciting!

FIESA International Sand Sculpture Festival

The largest sand sculpture festival ever built, this event attracts thousands of visitors every year. You’ll be able to feast your eyes on some incredible works of art and it will be a great way to break up the afternoon for a bit and get away from the poolside. Not that days by the poolside would ever be a complaint! ;) Using 40,000 tonnes of sand, this really is something to witness. And something more relaxing… so if you’ve just got back from Quad Ventura… take it easy with this!

Birdwatching Festival, Sagres

This is something even more relaxing I guess. For a day when you just feel like kicking back. But, that’s not to say it’s not equally enjoyable… it definitely is! Crowds of people gather here every year to watch a huge variety of amazing species fly over the village of Sagres. It’s a great way to spend quality time together and enjoy the wonders of The Algarve. So much more than sunny beaches, it’s activities like this that will make it a holiday to stand out above the rest.

Sardine / Shellfish Festival

Of course you need to fit in a bit of food while you’re at it! There are two festivals to note in The Algarve – The Sardine Festival in Portimao and the Shellfish Festival in Olhao, so I guess it will just depend on where you visit. These are big attractions with the locals in August. You can fill your senses with the aromas of delicious seafood and wonderfully traditional tastes. Spend your day tucking in and trying all the different varieties… it’s definitely an experience!

As you can see, The Algarve is such a diverse and wonderful location to take the whole family. So many different ways to treat the little ones, and plenty to keep you occupied as well… so why not give some of them a try!
