Winter can be a grey and miserable – but not anymore with these wonderful luxury hotels in winter paradise. Take a look at some of the most beautiful places to stay, and book your dream holiday…
So, winter holidays are already something pretty special – up in the mountains, strapping your skis or snowboard on and tearing up the pistes… or you could of course go for a splendid hike through the snow-covered winter landscapes and make yourself all cosy afterwards in a warm mountain hut. But let’s be honest: what would a successful winter holiday be without some amazing accommodation? Let’s face it, after all that exertion in the wilderness you just have to really put your feet up at the end! And if you look at the accommodation I’m about to show you, you’ll see that when it comes to luxury you just can’t afford to go second best. Here are the most beautiful luxury hotels for your winter holiday, so just sit back, relax and get dreaming…
Luxury hotels for a winter break – where winter dreams come true
I’m sure many of you will have heard of St. Moritz. This ski resort in the beautiful country of Switzerland is especially popular with the rich and beautiful, not least due to the many hip luxury hotels here. For over 100 years one hotel in particular has been getting the hearts of winter sports enthusiasts racing: the exclusive and traditional 5 star Suvretta House. First class suites, guests dressed in suits and tuxedos and a wellness area of a special kind right in the heart of Alpine landscapes all make for a unique ambience.
Copperhill Mountain Lodge – Åre, Sweden
A winter holiday in Sweden will most likely be an unforgettable experience. Snow-covered landscapes alternate with picturesque villages that are made for wandering about in – and with a bit of luck you might be able to spot a reindeer here and there. When you’ve found the perfect accommodation on top of all that, your holiday will be perfect! How about a stay in the stylish 5 star Copperhill Mountain Lodge, for example? Inside this hotel stylish and elaborate interiors await you, as well as a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. A small tip: I heard that in some Swedish regions you can book dog sled tours during winter, in case you’ll actually be there and want a little break from all the luxury. ;)
Schloss Elmau – Bavaria, Germany
Germany also houses some luxury hotels that are perfect for a winter holiday in the mountainous regions of the south. In the state of Bavaria near the Austrian border is the luxurious 5 star Schloss Elmau – Luxury Spa & Cultural Hideaway (rated 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor). After a round on the pistes you can warm yourself up by the fireplace with a glass of champagne in hand… ah, doesn’t that sound lush? Even Barack Obama and Angela Merkel stayed here when the G7 summit was taking place – you can see why when you take a look at the pictures!
Hôtel Les Airelles – Courchevel, France
When it comes to luxury the famous French ski resort of Courchevel has really splashed out. Each hotel seems more luxurious than the next and the many celebrities who spend their winter holiday here year after year clearly have a very difficult choice to make. But there is one hotel in particular that sticks out due to it being one of the Leading Hotels of the World – the renowned 5 star Hôtel Les Airelles. You’ll see what they mean by ‘luxury’ when you take a look inside…
The Omnia – Zermatt, Switzerland
When it comes to the prettiest and most popular ski resorts, there’s one enchanting place that definitely can’t be missed out – Zermatt. It’s location in the Matter Valley at an elevation of over 1,600m means that you’ll have the perfect conditions for a successful winter holiday with a view. And if you’ve already ventured there, then what’s stopping you from spending the night in a very special hotel? “Very special” doesn’t even cover half of it, as this hotel is number 1 in Zermatt (according to TripAdvisor) and has even been awarded with the Travellers’ Choice Award 2015. We’re talking about the 5 star hotel The Omnia. The largest and most luxurious suites are up to 110m² large, where you’ll have an open fireplace, a Jacuzzi or your own sauna at your disposal.
So, who’s started putting the first few pennies in their piggy banks? I admit the prices can be pretty high indeed – but to spend at least one winter holiday in such dreamy accommodation must be amazing, wouldn’t you agree?
Also worth a visit outside of winter
The hotels are of course not just worth visiting during winter, but also during the summer, when the picturesque landscapes are at their greenest. Perhaps outside ski season the prices will also be a little cheaper – I’d definitely ask!
