It pays to be prepared! Whether you’re heading off on a break in mainland Europe or backpacking your way across south-east Asia, travel insurance should be an integral part of everyone’s planning, yet it’s something we can often overlook! I’ve come across a fantastic travel insurance policy that I thought I’d share with you in case you’re looking to get some cover yourself!

I think we are all a little guilty of thinking that we don’t need travel insurance sometimes. After all, what could go wrong if it’s just a 2-night city break to somewhere like Amsterdam? Cancelled flights or ferry bookings, lost luggage, illness – these are all things that could happen at any time, and unless you’ve got the proper preparations in place you’ll find yourself in quite the sticky situation. Trust me… I’ve been there, done that!

Recently I’ve been doing a bit of research to find good insurance policies for travellers and adventurers that won’t break the bank, yet come with all the essential cover you’d need while on the move. I stumbled upon Cornmarket’s brilliant annual travel insurance policy and it’s well worth having a look at if you want to travel with complete peace of mind.

Guru Recommendation: Travel Insurance from Cornmarket!

Travel Plus – what’s included?

Even as your Holidayguru I find it very difficult to compare between insurance policies and find ones that I think would suit me during my travels. So when I saw this one I knew I was on to a winner! Cornmarket is an Irish insurance broker that’s been in business for over 45 years now. Combine that with a comprehensive list of cover and you’ve got yourself a winning combo.

The Travel Plus insurance policy is essentially an annual travel insurance policy that comes with a comprehensive list of cover features without the price tag. What’s more, the insurance is valid for an unlimited amount of trips within that year with a max. duration of up to 60 days at a time, so you can head off on a spontaneous adventure at the last minute with complete peace of mind.

So what coverage is included? I’ve put in a little overview below:

    • Free cover for dependents under the age of 24 who are in full-time education
    • Medical expenses: up to €10,000,000 available,
    • Personal belongings cover: up to €2,500 – and delayed baggage up to €250
    • Personal documents and money cover: up to €500
    • Cancellation and abandonment cover: €7,500 benefit with €1,000 for cancelled departures
    • No excess when making a claim
    • Extras: Winter sports, catastrophe cover, personal accident cover, legal expenses – and you’ve got some coverage when you’re scuba diving or snorkeling to a max of 30 metres, under 14 days !

That’s just a brief overview of course, but as you can see you’re getting a lot included in the policy. And the great thing is that it means you’ve got coverage no matter what holiday you’re going on. Skiing in the Alps? Then you can enjoy winter sports coverage as part of the standard policy. Snorkelling in magical Caribbean coral reefs? No bother!

Who is this travel policy for?

Everyone! There are two types of travel insurance policy for you to choose from, cover for you as an individual or cover for you and another adult. But seeing as dependents in full-time education under the age of 24 can join for free, this means that families and single parents can benefit from enjoying comprehensive cover as well. Age is also not a factor when signing up as well. People under the age of 86 are able to get a quote without having to pay extra. The same level of cover applies to everyone!

Family policy

  • This will cover two adults plus their dependants
  • €72.40 p.a. (with existing private health insurance)
  • €85 p.a. (without)

Individual policy

  • This will cover one adult plus their dependants
  • €55.60 p.a. (with existing private health insurance)
  • €64 p.a. (without)

Seeing as there’s no limit on the number of trips you do within the year, the policy is also well-suited for anyone looking to do some serious globetrotting. The only limit is that each individual trip can only last a maximum of 60 days, but otherwise you’re free to travel as much as you want for up to 183 days in the year. Even getaways within Ireland will enjoy some coverage as well, so if you’ve booked yourself a lovely getaway closer to home then you’re grand!

How can I get a quote?

When it comes to travel insurance, this is pretty much as good as it gets! The basic level of cover here already includes a comprehensive list that will give you a good level of cover, though of course you can always get additional cover on top of that if you are opting for more adventurous activities or have a medical condition you want factored in!

If you’re interested in getting a quote or simply learning more about the policy, then I’d recommend heading over to Cornmarket’s website where you’ll find more detailed info.
