Located along the stunning Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is the ultimate city for a getaway. It is a place where old and new styles fuse perfectly to create a vibrant modern city that remains steeped in Catalan culture.

A city steeped in culture, Barcelona has something for you no matter what your taste. Delicious food, stunning architecture and a nightlife to rival anywhere in the world; Barcelona has it all. Not to mention too that it is a shoppers paradise ;). If you’re looking for inspiration for your next getaway and are willing to let yourself be swayed, let me argue the case of this vibrant hub of activity.

Attractions in Barcelona

Barcelona has a plethora of examples when it comes to stunning architecture. Known as the ‘Gaudi City’ it is possible to see examples of this quirky style if you visit the Casa Vicens, La Padrera or the Palau Güell. There are numerous others too which are more than worth your time. Other iconic places that you should squeeze into any trip to Barcelona would be the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia (another Gaudi structure), The Camp Nou and also the gorgeous Barri Gotic (The Gothic Quarter). My personal favourite of all of these was the Sagrada Familia. The first gaze upon it’s imposing structure is something you won’t forget any time soon. The experience becomes even more spiritual as you walk through.

Shopping in Barcelona

OK so if there are any men reading this article, before you give up to boredom you should know that Barcelona is not just amazing when it comes to clothes shopping. The world famous Boqueria Market offers an amazing array of fresh food for you to sample. In the Gothic Quarter district, you will also find the Port Vell. This is just typical of the positive ambience that Barcelona is famous for. Essentially it is a port with a mall. It is full of boutique stores, street performers and tourists who are killing time until the appearance of the legendary Barcelona sunset. Simply immaculate.

Relaxing on the beach

Barcelona possesses a beautiful four kilometre long stretch of beach. My personal favourite section of this would be the Barceloneta. This can be reached on foot within 25 minutes of the end of the Las Ramblas path. This is a particularly popular portion of Barcelona’s beach but for very good reason. If you have time to kill and are not too keen on big crowds, you can just paddle along the Mediterranean until you find your perfect spot. :)

Barcelona’s Best Food

Opening up our senses to new pleasures is one of the main reasons we travel. If you are a food lover like myself, Barcelona will soon become your spiritual food home (yes, such a thing can exist). The Catalan capital offers  you the chance to experience Tapas in it’s truest/most delicious form. Seafood, meats, vegetables, breads and dips to beat the band, you will never be stuck for choice. The best places to pick up some scrumptious Spanish cuisine would be at the popular La Txapela tapas bars which you’ll find scattered across the city. If chains are not your thing, you should try the Malamen-Bendita Bodega. It offers a much more personal experience. Quiet and unassuming on the surface, one you walk through those doors, you’ll be transported to a world of flavour.

Barcelona Nightlife

I left this section until very last for a good reason! ;) There is lot to be said for picking this city as the ultimate spot for a blow out! Gathering a group of your nearest and dearest to hit up the many cocktail bars and clubs of this city will surely lead to some of the best memories you could ever hope for. My personal recommendations for an awesome night out would be the Negroni cocktail bar. If you’re looking to let loose on the dance floor, the best places to hit would be Pacha and Otto Zutz

So there you have it folks. I think this all amounts to a pretty convincing argument as to why you select Barcelona as the destination for your next hard-earned trip. The thriving nightlife, heaps of culture and iconic sights come together and create the perfect destination for a mini-break away!
