Climate in Tuscany
On the coast in Tuscany, there is a Mediterranean climate. The summers are predominantly hot and dry, the winters mild and partly rainy. In the interior of Tuscany, with its hilly landscapes and mountains, the Mediterranean climate is somewhat weaker. Here the temperatures are hotter in summer and cooler in winter than in the coastal regions. The average annual temperature in Tuscany is 20 degrees Celsius. In spring there is to 8 hours of sunshine per day. There are occasional showers, which are accompanied by sporadic wind. From mid-April, it gets really warm with temperatures around 18 to 19 degrees Celsius. In the summer the temperatures reach the 31 degrees mark by day and also at night the values are in the double-digit range. Autumn is still warm in summer, but from mid-September, there may be some showers in the interior of the country and in the mountain regions. In the coastal regions, it is still possible to swim in the sea until mid-October. The water temperature is still up to 20 degrees Celsius. The month with the highest rainfall in Tuscany is November with around 10 rainy days. In the months of December and January, the temperatures plummet particularly in the mountain regions to below freezing and there is some snowfall. The coast is milder at an average of 10 degrees Celsius.

The best times to travel to Tuscany
The best travel time for Tuscany is summer time. Between spring and autumn, most activities you could imagine can be done. It gets warmer in Tuscany from mid-March. The mild temperatures are perfect for an active holiday. It is not as hot as in summer, but also not too cold for your sightseeing tours. If really enjoy beach holidays, then the months of June to September are best suited for this. For sightseeing tours in the cities of Pisa, Florence and Siena I would recommend the low season in late spring. During this time the weather is not only more suitable for your tours, but there are also fewer tourists in the area. So you don’t need to queue for long at the different sights. The olive harvest in Tuscany is between October and March. If you rent a holiday home in the region, you can also participate in this wonderful event. You can pick olives from the trees and learn about the process for extracting olive oil. Ski lovers will also be happy in Tuscany. In the mountain regions, there is plenty of snow in Winter. There are even winter sports here in December and January.

The weather in Tuscany during the year
The weather in Tuscany is constant. Between the different seasons, it is mostly predictable. The summer is hot and dry with temperatures along the 30 degrees Celsius, while the winter is the coldest season. In spring the sun shines up to 10 hours a day and it rains an average of 8 days a month. From mid-April, it is noticeably warm with temperatures along the 19 degrees Celsius. The temperatures become steadily warmer until summer. In midsummer, it gets hot especially in the inland with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. On the coast, the heat is more bearable, as the sea breeze cools down the temperature. The heat on the coast lasts until mid-October. Although from mid-September precipitation begins to increase, it is still possible to swim in the Tuscan coast. The water temperature is still 21 degrees Celsius in September and 19 degrees Celsius in October. It becomes rainier and colder in November. It rains an average of 10 days a month during this time. In December it is not cold in winter at a mild 10 degrees Celsius on the coast. In the interior and especially in the mountains, however, it can get much colder (to freezing point), and snows as a result. Tuscany in January, February, and March
January is the coldest month in Tuscany. With about 10 degrees Celsius in the Tuscan capital Florence, it is nevertheless quite mild. In the mountain regions, temperatures can reach freezing point. In February the weather becomes more friendly. The sun shows up to 5 hours a day and it rains only about 8 days a month. From March it gets warmer in Tuscany. An average of 15 degrees Celsius and 8 hours of sunshine signal the beginning of spring.

Tuscany in April, May, and June
Tuscany shows its most beautiful side Spring in. There are already temperatures along the 19 degrees Celsius in April. It gets even warmer in May with around 24 degrees Celsius and July shines with a warm 27 degrees. This travel season is best suited for your sightseeing tours. Visit Pisa, Florence or Siena! Tuscany in July, August, and September
Tuscany is sunny and warm in Summer. The months of July, August and September are the best months for a beach holiday in Tuscany. Summer is too hot for sightseeing and hiking tours. Nevertheless, Tuscany’s attractions are overcrowded at exactly this time of year. The reason is that it is the main travel season for Tuscany and travelers would like to experience everything the Italian region has to offer. I would recommend that you take a beach holiday in the summer. If you want to go sightseeing, spring and autumn are more suitable.

It is still very warm in October, especially on the Tuscan coast and further inland. Until the middle of October, you can even swim in the sea due to the temperatures. Only the precipitation could spoil your fun. However, it rains only 7 days on average in October. November has the most rain showers with 10 rainy days in the year. The temperatures sink by up to 15 degrees Celsius. In December it finally gets cooler, but still mild at around 10 degrees Celsius. The probability of rain also decreases.

Tuscany can be visited at any time of the year. The varied region in central Italy offers a variety of holiday options. When the best time to visit Tuscany is, therefore, depends on what you want to do during your holiday. In general, it can be said that most activities are possible during the summer season. Between spring and autumn, everything is still open to you. The sun is shining, the temperatures are warm and there is little or no rain. For city trips to Florence or Pisa, I have to recommend the springtime. Tuscany blossoms, the warming sun shines and the number of tourists remains manageable. The weather is warm at about 20 degrees Celsius, but not too hot, so you can do great sightseeing tours and hikes. The summer with hot temperatures along the 30 degrees Celsius is especially suitable for a bathing holiday in Tuscany. On the Tyrrhenian coast and on the Tuscan islands you have numerous possibilities to spend a beach holiday. This option is available until October thanks to the constant warm weather. Autumn does not start until mid-October. It gradually becomes cooler, windier and rainier. If you want to experience Tuscany in winter, you can even expect snow on the Tuscan mountains.
