Best time to Visit Niagara Falls: April, May, June, September and October
When people are travelling outside of the city of New York, around the wider state, a lot of people visit Niagara Falls on the American-Canadian border. The natural spectacle of the falls is seriously beautiful. So that you’re not up to your neck in the rain I would recommend taking a look at the climate table for the region. Overall the best time to travel to Niagara Falls is from April to October. During this time it can be pretty warm and it tends to attract the most visitors. While the average temperature in April is 11 degrees Celsius, the temperature in July is around 27 degrees Celsius. July is not only the warmest month, it’s also the least rainy. In general, you can expect around ten hours of sunshine in New York. August isn’t far behind July with an average temperature only one degree colder of 26 degrees Celsius. As a result of these idyllic temperatures during the summer can be a pretty crowded time at the falls. During this time the crowds of tourists often walk along the waterfalls during this beautiful spell of weather. Therefore the best travel time for Niagara Falls that I would recommend are the months of April, May, June, September and October.
I wouldn’t recommend heading to the falls during winter. As a result of its more northerly location, it can get very cold with temperatures getting as low as -8 degrees Celsius. The coldest months are January and February with temperatures getting as low as -7 and -8 degrees Celsius. As result of its lower temperature and much lower hours of sunshine it really isn’t ideal to take a trip to the falls during December and November. The Canadian northerly winds bring frosty air to New York in the winter months. So the reason why it’s not recommended it to avoid getting snowed it. When the snow is falling and it’s a little bit icier there is a certain charm to the falls but it’s not for everyone.
