The city of love is a must-see destination any time of the year but at winter time the city really comes into its own. Picture in your mind long winding streets lined with the most amazing restaurants lit up with a warm glow and you cannot decide which place to go to first. This is what awaits you when you visit this historic city. There are plenty of great value deals on the blog for city breaks to Paris. During winter another great aspect of the city is the fantastically charming Christmas markets. These markets are some of best in Europe and they will have you falling in love all over again!
Budapest is gorgeous in winter! The view across the Danube of a snow-covered city is simply enchanting. When it gets too cold exploring the streets of Budapest, take shelter in the many cosy pubs or tea houses and warm up again. Of course the best way to warm up is visiting one of the great baths in the city. There is nothing better than this rejuvenated feeling of a good spa session in a crisp winter. A fun activity is also taking a “spin” on the ice rink or if you’re not so much a sporty person but are more the foodie-type, there are two food festivals taking place in winter, the fish festival, as well as the Mangalica Festival. Check them out
Of course nothing beats the panorama of a snowy Charles Bridges leading its way to the Old Town. It’s simply magical. Apart from the Christmas Market in December you will also see many nativity scenes in the street. This adds to the special Christmas ambient. Winter is also a great time to take in the wide offer of concerts and theatre plays taking place, so you could think about booking tickets in advance.
Why is London great in Winter? Well of course there is WinterWonderland in Hype Park, but we all know how very crowded and pricey this fair is… I would actually recommend you to take an actual walk in the parks. Hopefully they are snow-covered, then they look specifically magical. The Wintertime Festival at London’s South Bank is open to anyone, so why not go for an evening stroll there and treat yourself to some sweets and mulled wine. I can also recommend the ice rink at the Natural History Museum. It’s super cosy!
Of course the cherry on top of every Winter break is a visit to the Christmas Market. Europe has some great ones on offer and I have to agree those trips are my favourite ones! The most authentic ones can be found in all major German and Austrian cities, however, the old towns of Budapest, Prague, Krakow or Copenhagen have a lot to offer as well! The eastern cities are generally cheaper to book a city break for. Check out my Christmas Markets offers in Europe to be sure not to miss any deal. I made sure the Christmas markets are on for the travel period, so all you need to do is book :)
