Santorini – find the best offers at Holidayguru.ie!

White-washed houses, azure blue cupolas, and a unique, volcanic landscape – this is what you expect from your holiday on Santorini. Everything revolves around first-class service, pure romance, and a real touch of luxury. Santorini is part of the Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea. It is the most beautiful Greek Island for a relaxing break. If you’re looking for an exclusive destination, then you’re in the right place here. Santorini, also known as Thera, is the largest island in the archipelago.

The pearl of Greece is absolutely worth a visit. There are lovely hotels, which grant your every wish, and give you a fascinating view over the sea and the island. I show you hotels, which I find on the internet, here. They’ll win you over with the perfect value for money. Generally, the offers also include flights to this beautiful island. You don’t have to worry about anything with these package holidays. You can leave all your worries behind you.

Popular resort towns for your holiday on Santorini

Greece scores points as a holiday destination because of its many beautiful islands. But none of them are like Santorini. It is a Greek jewel and an oasis of calm, with unparalleled locations. The island isn’t that big, but it is home to many beautiful resorts for tourists from all over the world. I’m now going to tell you about the most beautiful and popular spots on the main island, Santorini.

Fira – a capital with an amazing location

Fira is the island’s capital and it’s an absolute tourist magnet. Tourist boats come and go here every day. Huge cruise ships bring loads of holidaymakers. The strong appeal of the city stems from its spectacular location. Fira is 300m above the sea, high up on the edge of the caldera. A fabulous view over the sea, the island, and the submerged caldera is guaranteed. To enjoy this view, you first have to go into the town. There are no cars here as the lanes are too narrow for them. The only means of transport is cable car. If you prefer a little more adventure, then travel by donkey or mule. Alternatively, you can reach the city on foot. Regardless of how you do it, it’s worth it. One of the town’s important attractions is the Archaeological Museum. Here, you can marvel at historical finds from past eras.

After a history outing, a shopping trip is exactly what you need. In Fira, there is a shopping area, which sells everything you could possibly need for an amazing holiday. Stores, boutiques, and souvenir shops will tempt you into a browse. If you want a break, you can head for a taverna or restaurant and try some Greek specialities. Walking along the edge of the caldera is also an amazing adventure. Everyone who goes on holiday to Santorini should experience this. If you walk north along the crater, you come to Oia, another popular resort.

Oia – the place to be for sunsets

Everyone has seen Santorini’s unmistakeable postcard picture of white houses and their blue roofs. This view attracts countless tourists to Santorini. Another feature of the small town of Oia is the many artists, who have set up their galleries and studios here. You can find a variety of artistic handicrafts and paintings in the narrow lanes. It’s no wonder, as Oia is a dream subject for paintings. Cave homes are also a must-see feature of Oia. You should definitely visit them when you’re in Santorini. If you love museums, you can visit the town’s Maritime Museum. Once you’ve done all of that, you should head to the north-west of Oia in the evening. It’s best to find a pretty taverna or a cosy bar, so that you don’t miss the big show – the sunset. Hardly anywhere else in the Cyclades can you see such magic as the sun disappears behind the horizon. This is the reason why you should secure a good spot early. You will remember a sunset on Santorini forever.

Kamari – beach paradise on the south-east coast

If you want to spend your holiday on Santorini on the beach and love package holidays, go to Kamari. The resort on the south coast is ideal for a break on the beach. Kamari beach is about 2.5 kilometres long and has a spot for every holidaymaker. As the island has volcanic origins, you’ll find fine, black sand here. The further north you go, the pebblier it gets. If it becomes too overcrowded for you, which is often the case in the summer, you can head to your hotel pool. Along the beach promenade, you can enjoy a huge choice of restaurants and bars. This is great, if you feel the need to escape the sun for a while. Many holidaymakers choose this town in Santorini because it’s near the airport. It takes around four hours to reach the island from the UK. As soon as you get off the plane, you’re only a few kilometres away from the beach paradise that is Kamari. Another reason for the huge number of tourists is the exciting nightlife there. Kindred spirits come together in the bars and clubs. You can go for the whole evening or just sit back and relax with a cocktail in your hand. Relaxation is the top priority during your holiday in Santorini.

Perissa – small town, big beach

Perissa, another popular beach resort, is right next to Kamari. The small town is at the foot of Mesa Vouna Mountain. The town’s biggest and most important attraction is the beach. It appeals to tourists with its kilometres-long black sand. There are tavernas, bars, and cafes along the beach. Perissa is popular, especially among the younger generation and backpackers. There are loads of possibilities for water sports on the beach as well as surfing and diving schools. In the town centre, bars and clubs invite you to party. If you’re looking for a change from the sunbathing, you can go on a discovery tour of the area outside the town. Make your way, for example, to the ruins of the Agia Irini Church and the excavations of Ancient Thera. Once you’ve done this, just sit back and enjoy yourself! This is what a holiday in Santorini is all about!

Akrotiri – an archaeological highlight

This small village is in the south-west of the archipelago’s main island. The most important sight on the island is just in front of Akrotiri’s gates – the Akrotiri excavation site. The historical findings date back to 1,600 BCE and are a real highlight of your holiday here. Inside the town, there is a lighthouse, which is another of Akrotiri’s landmarks. The remains of Akrotiri Castle stand on the hill in the heart of the town. The Venetians built it many centuries ago. If you want to go swimming in the sea and lie on the beach, head to Red Beach. The beach has the red cliffs behind it to thank for its name. You can get to Red Beach on foot. However, this is not the case for White Beach. You have to take a boat from Akrotiri to reach the 70-metre-long beach. If you can’t get enough of Santorini’s beaches, you can also head for Mesa Pigada Beach. It is normally less crowded with tourists and you can enjoy your break at the beach in peace.
