The best time to go to Mexico
The diversity of this country is also reflected in the climate. The are various different climate zones, from subtropical to alpine. Generally speaking, lower-lying regions are warmer and more tropical and higher regions are much milder. The rainy season is between May and October. The other months are considered as the dry period, but it can also rain during this time. So, as the cold arrives in the UK – you could be enjoying the warm weather in Mexico. The popular peninsula Yucata, where Cancun is situated, is a year-round destination. There, the temperatures remain around 26°C throughout the year. In comparison, Mexico City is much milder. This is because the capital city is located at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres. The altitude influences the climate but it’s perfectly tolerable for Europeans. In winter, you can look forward to temperatures of up to 25°C, however the evenings can be a bit chilly. In April and June, tropical temperatures of up to 30°C prevail. Depending on which region of Mexico you want to travel to, the dry period is the most ideal time to visit this diverse country – so from October to April. However, if you like the rain, then you can also go on holiday in the other months.
Cancun – popular destinations for a beach holiday
When we think of Mexico, a dream destination naturally comes to mind: Cancun. The city is located on the Yucatan peninsula and attracts sun-hungry holiday makers year after year. Due to it’s coastal location, one thing is a must here: sunbathing on the picturesque beaches. With views of the blue sea, relaxing here is easy. The palm trees provide you with shade, this way you can spend the whole day on the beach. And it’s not just a paradise on land – the underwater world of Cancun casts a spell over divers and snorkelers. If you want to see wales up close, you’ll find them by Isla Mujeres island. Beneath the surface of the water you’ll find another highlight: the Underwater Museum. The artist Jason deCaires Taylor exhibits his life-size sculptures here. Every visitor is impressed by the view of “The Silent Evolution”. On the surface, you can go windsurfing or kayaking. Mexico City – discover the Mexican capital
Tasty delicacies, numerous sights and the friendliness of the Mexicans make the capital, Mexico City, really special. Along with the fact that the city is located 2,000 metres high up and surrounded by impressive mountains. Around 20 million people live in the valley. If you fancy a trip to Mexico, then you must see this metropolis. This is the heart and soul of the country. What can you do here? Eat typical Mexican food of course. Numerous bars and restaurants invite you to try their tortillas, enchiladas and tacos. If you like Mexican cuisine, you’ll love the spicy dishes. After tucking into all this, you’ll be raring to go and visit all the places and sights of the city. There are endless tourist sights here. The Zocalo is the central square of the city and is one of the biggest in the world. It’s lined with colonial buildings from the past, like the national palace, the town hall and the Catedral Metropolitana. The Baroque cathedral is the biggest in Mexico. The historic city centre lies between the Zocalo and Alameda Park. Art and architecture play a key role in the old town. Alameda Park is the public garden of the city, where many locals come to relax. Chapultepec Park is the green heart of the city – it’s the biggest park in the city. You’ll need a lot of time as there are so many sights to explore. Visit the anthropology museum, the castle, botanical gardens and the zoo. There’s so much to see!
