There are many reasons which will convince you that travelling here is a good idea. Firstly, there is the short flight time of around 2.5 hours. You’ll be amazed at everything a holiday in Majorca has to offer. I am going to show you the most popular holiday spots on the island and the best offers for your trip. There are as many hotels on the island as there are fish in the sea. You only have to choose a town and a hotel and your relaxing break can begin!
How do you find the best flights to Majorca?
In terms of finding flights, its a synch! There are plenty of options for direct flights to the island whether you fly from Cork, Shannon or Dublin. Many of the packages that you find on the blog will have the flights included, so it’s important to keep an eye on whats going up.
Flights from Dublin
This is perhaps the busiest airport for flights to Majorca. The main airline that would fly from Dublin to Majorca would fly directly is Ryanair and they offer plenty of flights especially during the high season. There are other options where you would have stopovers and if you keep an eye on the blog we will bring you the cheapest flights as soon as possible.
Flights from Shannon
Just because its a smaller airport doesn’t mean that it gets left out when it comes to flights. Again Ryanair is probably the main carrier when it comes to this airport. You do have options when it comes to alternative airlines but the only one that currently provides stopover flights to Palma de Mallorca is British Airways.
Flights from Cork
Cork airport is another great option for getting to this gem of an island. Again the main airline for getting to Palma de Mallorca is Ryanair and they offer very reasonably priced flights at a very affordable price. There are alternative airlines on offer such as KLM and British Airways but again your flights may be more expensive and take much longer.
The great thing about a lot of the packages is that a lot of them give you options when it comes to the flights, you can find Majorca deals on Falcon and Click&Go flying from any of the above-mentioned airports.
What are the most popular destinations on Majorca?
Majorca hasn’t been nicknamed ‘Pearl of the Mediterranean‘ for no reason. Every holidaymaker, regardless of their reasons for coming to the island, happily return again and again. The island amazes everyone, particularly beach-goers, who want a break beside the Spanish seaside. The 550-kilometre-long coastline is dotted with countless beach resorts. You can choose a hotel in any town and it’s never far to the nearest beach. Many bays are surrounded by fragrant pine forests. This makes for an amazing sight and a wonderful combination of scenery.
The Wilder Side of Majorca
If you tend to get itchy feet when you spend too much time on the beach there are plenty of things to check out that doesn’t involve lying on the beach. The different nature parks on the island are appealing to hikers, and the north of the island is perfect for surfers. The best conditions for surfboarding are there.
Anybody who loves to travel should explore the northeast. The mountains are just waiting for you to discover and traverse them. If you’re longing for an exciting holiday to Spain, you can find lively, vibrant towns on the island. For a really scenic journey around the island, you should check out the amazing Cala de Sa Calobra & Cala Tuent. This 12km winding road provides some of the most scenic views you can find on the island and it is the absolute perfect spot to grab a few amazing photos! If you’re feeling truly adventurous you could rent a bike a get cycling up this steep incline ;)
However, if you’d prefer to sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet, Majorca is also the right place for you. I am going to tell you about the most beautiful and most popular towns in Majorca so you can find out what awaits you on your holiday!
Palma de Majorca – parties, sightseeing and sandy bliss
If you really want to get to know the centre of the Balearic Islands, you should definitely plan your trip to Palma. The island’s capital is on the west coast. Here, you can combine a relaxing beach holiday with an exciting sightseeing trip. The main attraction is the six-kilometre-long beach, Platja de Palma. It is just outside the city walls and is divided into 15 sections. The beach has something for every holidaymaker. By day, party animals can completely cure their hangover on the beach. Then, in the early evening and throughout the night, they can do it all over again in the clubs and bars. Especially in the summer months, many young holidaymakers come to Palma to celebrate their stag dos and other festivities. Other, quieter places on the beach are suitable for those travelling alone, as well as couples, and families. Here, tourism is less noticeable and you can enjoy your holiday in Spain in peace and quiet.
I absolutely recommend at least one or two visits to Palma’s historic Old Town. There are plenty of impressive buildings and shopping opportunities here. La Seu Cathedral is an artistic masterpiece and attracts lots of tourists. It is enormous and you can even see her from the beach. Other buildings worth seeing are Bellver Castle as well as the Royal Palace of la Almudaina. If you want to get to know more about Spanish cuisine, go to one of the restaurants. There are hundreds of them in the biggest town on Majorca. Eating Spanish Tapas is a must on your holiday in Majorca. For shopaholics, there are also countless boutiques and shops, where everything from textiles to jewellery are available. The town has many sides to it and offers everything you could wish for on your break in Spain – from beaches to parties and even sightseeing. You can find a hotel for every taste and budget in the capital. I have the best and cheapest hotels and offers for you here.
Cala Ratjada – picturesque bays and nature reserves
Cala Ratjada, in the northeast of the island, is another town which is known for its dreamy Spanish beaches. The popular destination is over 80 kilometres away from Palma. Because the town is at the tip of a peninsula, you can look forward to plenty of beaches. You have to remember to visit Cala Gat, Cala Agulla, Playa de Son Moll and Cala Mesquida. The beaches are generally in protected bays so they are fantastic for the whole family. Soft sand and turquoise water – what more could you want from a holiday in Majorca? The bays are well suited for snorkelling so you can discover Spain’s underwater world. The beaches are often surrounded by pine forests. While you’re there, take a walk around and enjoy the beach.
The surrounding area is hilly, which is great for hiking. Here, you can find lots of nature reserves, which bring huge smiles to the faces of nature lovers. In Cala Ratjada, there is even more to experience. The town’s wonderful port is well-known. You can easily stroll along the beach promenade from Cala Gat Bay to the port. The weekly market with its Spanish food and delicacies is also of interest to many tourists. Cala Ratjada particularly attracts young people because there are lots of parties. There are clubs, bars and beer gardens all over the town. You can turn the night into day there. The town is popular with all age groups and there are plenty of hotels here. Many of them are right on the beachfront. So, if you’re looking for a hotel in Cala Ratjada, take a look at the some of the offers, which I’ll show you here.
Cala Millor – perfect for a family holiday
Cala Millor is a holiday paradise on the east coast of the Balearic island. Translated, its name literally means ‘best bay’. It offers first class beach holidays. In total, the fine, sandy beach extends over 1,800 metres in length. With a width of up to 35 metres and four sections, lots of holidaymakers can find a place under the sun here, even in peak season. All the sections of beach are suitable for families with children. The water is smooth and the beach gradually disappears into the sea. There are also lots of activities on and in the water for water sports enthusiasts. You can learn to surf or speed across the water on a banana boat. The most southerly section is called the Cala Nau.
Nearby, you’ll find a nature reserve with the most spectacular scenery. The wonderful views of deserts, forests, and cliffs are captivating. Hikes and walks will add some action to your beach holiday. If possible, you must also go to the cliffs on the coast and look out over the sea. If you’re looking for entertainment, try the town’s beach promenade. Here, you can shop, have a glass of sangria in a bar and watch the world pass you by. A holiday in Cala Millor has something for everyone. Nature, activity, beach, and water lovers as well as those just looking for a bit of relaxation, can all find island happiness here. There is a suitable hotel for every budget. The diversity of what’s on offer means that everyone can find the right accommodation for them. There is everything from holiday apartments to club hotels.
Porto Cristo – an idyllic port town
Porto Cristo is another town on Majorca’s east coast, which is also ideal for a holiday on the Balearic Islands. The port town is in Cala Manacor Bay and has retained its original character. You can feel the fishing village’s unique atmosphere in every nook and cranny. This is what makes Porto Cristo so appealing. There are over 200 metres of top-class beaches with crystal-clear water, so you’ll quickly fall in love.
Another highlight is the Old Town, which is characterised by narrow lanes and spectacular architecture. The Mare de Déu del Carme church forms the centre of the town and is definitely worth a photo. If you want to splash some of your holiday money, you should wander down the main shopping street. There are lots of shops and boutiques on the Passeig de la Sirena. Here, you can find Spanish souvenirs for your friends and family at home. A market also takes place every Sunday on the shopping street, where you can take a look at what the Spanish merchants have to offer you.
You simply must visit some caves on your holiday in Majorca. You can visit the Coves del Drac, the Coves dels Hams, and the Coves Blanques. The Dragon Caves are home to Europe’s biggest underground lake. The cave system seems like a labyrinth. If you’re spending your time in Majorca with your children, I’m sure the little ones would enjoy a trip to Jumaica Tropical Park. It combines a banana plantation and a zoo. The park looks after both animals and exotic plants. If you’re looking for a hotel in a popular Majorcan holiday resort, then this is definitely the right place for you. Whether you want accommodation right by the beach, or in the town centre, I can provide you with amazing offers.
