Fuerteventura – an unspoiled surfer’s favourite

You can never go wrong with a holiday to Fuerteventura. With a gorgeous, rugged landscape and strong winds which it is named after, it has avoided the crowdedness of its sister islands. Therefore it is the perfect sun holiday for people looking to explore nature and go surfing. When I see the beautiful scenery and refreshing ocean waves, its clear to me that this is the place to be! In this article, I will give you some useful information to help you when deciding whether to book a Fuerteventura holiday.

Book a cheap holiday to Fuerteventura

If it’s a cheap sun holiday you’re after then Fuerteventura is one of the best destinations in the Canary Islands, and in all of Spain for that matter! There’s an absolutely massive list of destinations to choose from, so it can be hard finally deciding on one. While it doesn’t have quite the same number of hotel resorts like Gran Canaria or Tenerife, there are still plenty of options to choose from here that should also be quite affordable. I would also recommend looking on Airbnb if you’re looking at busy times and can’t find a hotel that tickles your fancy!

When should I book my Fuerteventura holiday?

Millions of passengers fly to Fuerteventura directly from over 80 destinations every year which is absolutely huge for such a small island. With that in mind, it would make sense to book with at least two or three months in advance to get ahead of the crowd. Even still there I am always publishing terrific last minute holiday deals to Fuerteventura on my blog so sometimes you can get lucky. It’s not as busy to fly into Fuerteventura as in Gran Canaria or Tenerife.

Package holidays to Fuerteventura

If you’re looking to make every penny count when traveling abroad, then sometimes booking everything in one package is the best thing you can do. This will help keep all the transport costs manageable so you can worry about working on your tan and enjoying yourself! Especially if you’re taking a whole family with you which can be expensive. Click&GO and TUI are great options if you’re looking for a trusted provider to book a package holiday to Fuerteventura.

Another way to tighten the purse strings is to book an all-inclusive holiday package. Not only will it save you money but think of all the delicious food you’ve just order for yourself ahead of time. It is best to check out the reviews for a hotel on trip advisor. If you are not a fan of buffet food, then it may be advisable to forego this option and eat out at restaurants instead.  Eating out in Spain is very cheap so its not the end of the world either way! Don’t forget to try the local Paella which tastes just incredible!

Fuerteventura holidays from Ireland

There are two options to reach Fuerteventura from Ireland. Dublin is by far the biggest connection between the two. But people from the west coast aren’t left out with flights from Shannon also operating. Then, of course, there is also Belfast.

Top destinations in Fuerteventura

There are over 250 km of coastline here which makes Fuerteventura an excellent choice for a sunny beach holiday. Its the second biggest island in the group and has one of the most unique landscapes of them all. Both people looking for a relaxing time and those with a thirst for surf and adventure come here in droves every year. Its warm all year long in the Canaries which means the fun never stops even if its a winter holiday

Whether its a quiet beach for the kids to play on or crashing waves for surfing with friends, there is something for everyone on this beautiful island.

Corralejo – the biggest resort on the island

Once a tiny fishing village, significant development saw this town located at the northern end of the island explode in size since the 1970’s. Many British and Irish expats have since settled here to take advantage of the near endless sunshine. With 11 km of fine sand along with sand dunes nearby forming a gorgeous nature reserve, its no wonder what attracts tourists to this area. The Dunes are world famous and an absolute must see if you opt for a Fuerteventura holiday. Definitely a great place for a couple’s holiday on account of the great restaurants and hotels in the area.

Caleta de Fuste – a gorgeous beach with many activities

Known for its golf courses and absolutely stunning sheltered beach. This is a great place for a family holiday to Fuerteventura. El Castillo is an 18th-century defensive tower directly on the beach which had a swimming pool resort spring up right beside it. Then in the North, you have the Dreams House Museum which showcases model trains and old vintage toys. Just a bit to the south you can visit the Salinas del Carmen salt works. inside you’ll find a wonderful salt museum along with a whale skeleton! The beach here which is located in a natural cove is definitely the star of the show here you can’t miss it!

Costa Calma – a surfers paradise

Every summer for 30 years, this location has played host to the Fuerteventura Windsurfing Championship. The winds here are absolutely perfect for surfers and anyone looking for an adventure holiday need look no further. The waters here are absolutely lush and keep a warm temperature all year round so you won’t even need a wetsuit! This area has become particularly popular amongst German tourists so you may find some of the amenities cater to their tastes. But theres other places if you just want a familiar setting. The Costa Calma is for someone looking for something new and exciting!

Morro Jable – the gorgeous southern coast

This lovely village lies in a valley between two rocky hills on the southern coast. Behind the western hill, there is the harbour of the place where a car ferry to Las Palmas on Gran Canaria departs daily. To the east of Morro Jables begins the hotel settlement of Jandía Playa, which stretches for several kilometers along sandy beaches. To the north of the village, there are low mountain ranges of volcanic origin that reach their highest point of Pico de la Zarza at 807 metres. It is really a spectacle to behold the wonderful beaches here and well worth the trip if you’re staying nearby!

The best offers for your holiday to Fuerteventura

I’m always finding deals that fly out to Fuerteventura every day and I publish them here on my blog! Of course, I also find deals to other regions across Spain and the world! I like to mix the offers so there is something for everyone, from singles holidays to family holidays and everything in between. You should check back regularly to see if I’ve found the perfect deal for you!
