Where can I book a trip to Cuba?

In Cuba you can have the perfect mix of sun holiday and culture trip. If you prefer the first one then I would recommend you to stick to a packaged holiday. There are websites like that will provide you with the whole packaged deal with pick up from the airport included.

However, if you actually prefer to be a bit more independent, then I would advise you to look for your flight and hotel separately . Use my hotel and flight finder for it. If you are looking for a beach holiday fly to Varadero airport because then you are right in the location of all the major beach resort hotels. For your culture trip I would start flying to Havana.

When is the best time of year to visit Cuba?

A tropical, warm climate between 20 and 30 degrees prevails throughout Cuba all year round. The perfect time to go on holiday is between the middle of October and the end of April. The high season begins in November and ends in April. These months are the dry season with very little rain. You can expect muggy weather and high humidity in the months from May to July. It’s the rainy season between June and October, and between August and October it’s not unusual to experience a storm every now and then. If you travel between December and January, be sure to pack a thick jacket. The nights can get rather cool here at this time of year. During the day, you can to look forward to mild temperatures of around 20 degrees.

All Inclusive deals

For your sunny Cuba vacation I can highly recommend a an all inclusive deal that most of the big hotels along the coast in Varadero offer. It just makes it super simple and since you will stay in the hotel most of the time anyway when you’re enjoying a sun vacation, you might as well get the comfort of knowing you will be catered to at all times. The hotels make a great effort in bringing the culinary Cuba closer to you.

Flights to Cuba

Flying to Cuba is relatively cheap! You can grab flight deals for around €500 for either Jose Marti Airport in Havana or Varadero. If you book a holiday package then the transfer from the airport to the hotel is usually included. If you haven’t got transfers included you can take a taxi. There is the Touristaxi that is government-run. Or you hop on to one of the private taxis with a blue licence plate.

Hotels in Cuba

When you travel to Cuba you will find out that the standard of is a bit lower to the European ones. But I don’t necessarily mean in a negative way. They are very well kept but just a bit older. When I travelled there I felt like I was set back in time. It just all looks like time stopped in the 60s. And that is what I love about Cuba. It has such a wonderful and relaxing charme. What you get for the price is also amazing. You can often find a 4-star all inclusive hotel for €60. That is why a trip to Cuba is such a popular thing to do. You really get your money’s worth.

The coastline of Varadero is loacted in the north of the island, east to Havana and only a 2-hour trip away from the beautiful capital. In this place you will find the major hotel chains and tourist apartments. The beach in Varadero is one of the most stunning ones I have seen. You will get the ultimate Caribbean feeling there. From Varadero it is easy to reach other party of the island, as it is quite central. So, if you are staying at a hotel but want to explore a bit more, you can always book a trip into the Cuban jungle through your hotel or go to Varadero town and see one of the local tourist agencies.

Visiting La Habana – Cuba’s capital – is an absolutely unique experience. It’s colourful architecture is truly inspiring and it’s vibrant life happens outside on the streets. Nowhere else can you experience life as it might have been in the past with such a charme and positivity. Walk along the Malecón, the oceanside boulevard where you can witness stunning sunsets and join the Cubans on this authentic hotspot of just enjoying yourself.

Make sure to pay a visit to Habana Vieja, the old town, which is decorated with the most beautiful architecture and cultural spots that you can imagine. La Catedra de la Habana will leave you stunning. On Plaza Vieja you can sit down and relax in the evening with some delicious Cuban meal and maybe a sip of this fantastic Cuban rum. The setting is just incredible.

A round trip of Cuba – by bus, train or rental car

There are many ways you can do a tour of Cuba. You could explore the diverse Caribbean island in a rental car. You can book a car using one of many rental portals or rental car companies. Alternatively you could rent a Cuban car from a rental car station when you land. If you want to experience Cuba like a local, you can use the public transport. The railway network in Cuba is the only one in the Caribbean. Reason enough to give it a try. As well as that, there are the local trams that enable you to get a taste of the real Cuban lifestyle. Tourists also have the possibility to use the Viazul Buses. They are modern buses with air conditioning that take holiday makers to touristic sights and destinations. The Viazul buses operate in a wide network, however sometimes the bus stations are situated outside the city centre. Explorers can then either walk the rest of the way by foot or take a taxi.
