The Climate in Canada
Canadians enjoy four very distinct seasons, particularly in the more populated regions along the US border. Sun worshippers, you will be in heaven with a holiday to Canada in the summer as temperatures can rise to 35°C and higher, while lows of -25°C are not uncommon in winter. More moderate temperatures are the norm in spring and fall.
I would say the best time for a trip to Canada is in the spring as the temperature is generally pleasant across the country. Autumns are often crisp and cool but brightened by rich orange and red leaves on the trees. Summers can be hot and dry on the Prairies, humid in central Canada, and milder on the coasts. During the summer the Southern provinces often have temperatures of over 30°C and high levels of humidity. Why not start planning your next summer holiday to this oasis of natural beauty!
Winters brings strong winds and in some areas heavy snow. For families looking for a skiing holiday or winter sports break to Canada, you will be in luck! Though in major cities such as Vancouver and Victoria winters are mild and wet on the west coast.
Flights to Canada from Ireland
The 4 major airports in Ireland (Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Shannon) do have great long-haul options to Vancouver, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary (just to mention a few). Don’t stress about the price because you can book your plane seat for around €250 if you plan a little in advance. It is worth noting that the only direct flight available is from Dublin to Toronto. Don’t let that put a downer on your decision to visit this gorgeous country because at HolidayGuru we ensure the Canadian flight deals we find have short layovers.

Montreal, the capital of Quebec, is another can’t-miss destination, with a strong French influence that runs through the entire region. Some of Montreal’s attractions include Notre-Dame Basilica, Saint-Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal and downtown skyscrapers. Head to one of the theme/water parks for a fantastic family holiday! If you can, try to see a hockey game between the Canadians and the Toronto Maple Leaf’s – it’s one of the most intense rivalries in North American sports.
Vancouver is often ranked as one of the best places in the world to live in and for good reason! Located between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains in British Columbia, Vancouver offers glorious landscapes and provides an active playground where travellers can swim in the ocean, rollerblade through cool scenic parks and snow ski on the mountains. As host of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, it’s the place to go for sports of all kinds, from skiing to surfing and everything in between.
Ottawa, which is located in Ontario, is the capital of Canada is blessed with numerous attractions, including the Parliament buildings and many world-class museums. One of Ottawa’s most popular spots is its Rideau Canal. In the summer, the Rideau Canal is popular with avid boaters and in the winter, it becomes one of the largest outdoor skating rinks in the world. Situated in Alberta, this city is famous for its western ambience and, most notably, for its world-famous Calgary Stampede, a huge ten-day rodeo that features an unforgettable parade! Calgary, which is Alberta’s biggest city, is also considered a gateway to the Rocky Mountains. If rodeos aren’t your thing, then you can find plenty of other excursions.
