As I’ve mentioned the Algarve is not by any means a small area. It is a long breathtaking coastline that has a few towns dotted along its gorgeous coastline. Some of the most famous areas on the coastline are Faro, Lagos, Albufeira, Portimao and Sagres.
What are the best places to stay?
Over the years each of these towns has become fantastic tourist destinations. If you’re looking for the best Algarve holiday I reckon that Lagos, Albufeira or Praia da Rocha are your best bet. Over the year Albufeira has developed into a gorgeous that mixes lots of things for tourists with traditional Portuguese culture. Where are the best family Algarve holidays?
For family Algarve holidays I would recommend checking out Praia da Luz, Alvor or Carvoeiro. These destinations have plenty of great offerings for families no matter what their size is.
There is a lot of variation with these towns so each one can fit into whatever holiday you’re looking to book. One thing is for sure anyway that you can book a fantastic Algarve holiday in 2019, no matter what you’re looking for.

Prices can vary depending on demand and of course you are going to pay more during the high season. There are currently 2 non-stop flights per day departing from Dublin. When it comes to peak season you can expect to pay a little bit more.
Must-see places in the Algarve
The southern coast of Portugal is famous for its wonderful nature and its incredible diversity. But these aren’t the only features which define the Algarve – the region is also home to modern towns and small fishing villages which provide a varied insight into Portuguese life. It’s definitely one of the reasons why people rave on about this place and keep on coming back! And of course, there’s absolutely no shortage of sun – the perfect conditions for a beach holiday!
Best places for a Holiday on the Beaches
If the weather wasn’t enough of a reason to come here, you’ll be pleased to know that the region is blessed with beautiful bays and fantastic beaches. Some beaches that I particularly recommend checking out: Praia da Marinha, which is amazing for snorkelling and Paia do Tonel, perfect for both sunbathers and surfers alike. West of Faro you’ll find lots of smaller coves and beaches which are generally a lot quieter thanks to fewer tourists staying in this part of the region. But in comparison to other popular sun destinations, you’ll find that no matter what beach you go to in the Algarve, things aren’t really as crowded or as manic as you’d expect.
Faro – The Heart of the Algarve
If you think you’ve done enough relaxing, then why not pay a visit to one of the many towns? First up is Faro, the capital of the region. This lovely whitewashed town is filled with gorgeous architecture and narrow cobbled streets that are asking to be explored. There are plenty of sights such as the Manuel Bivar Gardens by the harbour, buildings from Roman times and the largest nature reserve in the region.
Lagos – A Hub of Cultural Activity
Another city that’s worth checking out is Lagos, which has been influenced by several cultures across the years. You can wander through the Old Town and admire sights such as the former Governor’s Palace and the City Gate before sitting down to a traditional Portuguese dinner. If you think the Algarve is a place for those who like things nice and quiet, you’re wrong!
Albufeira – The Heart of Tourism on the Algarve
The town of Albufeira is filled to the brim with bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants. You’ll meet many similar-minded people looking to dance the night away. If you’re feeling a bit fragile the day after, just make your way down to the beach and chill in the sun! Such a mix of things to do makes the Algarve a destination for everyone!
