There’s no end to the love that I have for Italy. The beautiful landscapes, incredible cuisine and the bucketloads of history and culture to get stuck into… It’s the perfect place for any solo traveller looking to really get stuck into a wonderful adventure and enjoy the finer things in life.
Solo Italy Tour
I’ve put together another little itinerary today using Airbnb and Momondo, which will take you from the bustling metropolis of Milan to the legendary capital, Rome. Along the way you’ll experience two of Italy’s most breathtaking spots in terms of architecture and natural beauty. Transfers between destinations are not included, but I would definitely recommend checking out Trenitalia’s website for convenient train links, or booking yourself a cheap coach over at Flixbus.
Your first stop on this Italy tour is the buzzing city of Milan. Famed for its shopping, it historic position as an industrial and fashion powerhouse has made it one of the richest cities in Italy’s history. Admire the amazing cathedral and the Galleria de Vittorio Emmanuale II, the oldest shopping mall in the world, before heading to the lovely Navigli district. The canals here are lined with plenty of bars, restaurants and quirky shops, and it’s a great place to be when the sun starts setting and the bohemian neighbourhood really comes alive.
Roughly 2 hours away by train is La Spezia, a delightful little harbour city that tends to get overlooked by many. It features a wonderful promenade and there are plenty of lovely cafés and restaurants to get stuck into, but the real draw here is the proximity to the legendary Cinque Terre. Just a few minutes on the train and you’ll soon be exploring the breathtaking villages that are precariously perched on the cliffs. A truly wonderful place to check out!
Florence is another area in Italy that I believe everyone should see at least once in their life. Not just because of the breathtaking architecture, but also because of its importance throughout Italy’s history. This city is renowned as being the “cradle of the Rennaissance” and the many artists, scientists and philosophers who were living here inspired a whole new way of modern thinking. Admire the awe-inspiring cathedral or admire some of Michaelangelo’s works!
From one legendary city to the other – Rome is a place that needs no introduction! It’s manic at times, but it’s that rough charm that gives it that loveable edge. The amount of history in the city never fails to blow my mind. The Roman ruins and temples will truly inspire you, while the inside of St. Peter’s Basilica is simply insane. Should you need a break from the busy streets you can always escape to the lush gardens of Villa Borghese, or head to the Trastevere area and sit down at a lovely restaurant serving authentic Roman cuisine.
This is a lovely way to check out some of Italy’s top spots. You’ve got plenty of culture, museums and history to get stuck into, plenty of time to enjoy the superb Italian cuisine and of course enjoy the glorious views and breathtaking architecture. Feel free to customise your own dates for this itinerary, or use the links above in the article to find other great Airbnbs. :)
