Solo Eastern European Tour

I’ve put together another mega itinerary for you using my Flight Finder tool and Airbnb. This is essentially a tour of several capital cities as well as a stopover somewhere quite off the beaten path. It’s a 12-night adventure that will take you through 4 countries in one go. The cities are all well-connect as they are all close to each other, so in terms of transfers you have plenty of options open to you. Flixbus is a company that offers cheap coaches and it’s a popular choice in mainland Europe – they have an extensive network of routes!

Prague

The first stop on your trip is the beautiful capital of Czechia, Prague. Famed the world over for its historic architecture, this city is one of the most classically beautiful in the world. Wander the cobbled streets of the Old Town (Stare Mesto), or cross the river to check out the equally charming Mala Strana district. Prague also has a world-renowned beer brewing scene as well, and there’s plenty of nightlife going on here.

Brno

Just over two hours away by train is Brno, Czechia’s second city. This lovely city seems to be off the radar for a lot of people, yet it’s a fantastic way to really get a feel for what life is really like in Czechia. It’s markedly calmer than Prague, yet a vibrant student population means that things are never too sleepy. Excellent dining, great microbreweries and plenty of lovely cafés means that Brno has plenty of strengths.

Vienna

The Austrian capital is just a short journey to the south of Brno. Vienna is easily one of the grandest capitals in Europe – its role as the seat of the Hapsburg Dynasty means that it boasts many stately buildings, palaces and residences. Stroll through the gorgeous landscaped gardens of Schloss Belvedere, or sit down for some proper Kaffee und Kuchen at one of the Vienna’s venerable coffee houses – the Sachertorte cake is a must!

Bratislava

Small, but mighty! The Slovenian capital is just a short hop away to the east from Vienna – once you’ve crossed the border you’re pretty much there already! Bratislava enjoys a lovely location on the banks of the River Danube and its cute Old Town is crowned by the beautiful white-washed castle overlooking the townhouses below. Be sure to pay a visit to the quirky Church of St. Elizabeth, painted in a distinct pastel-blue hue.

Budapest

Now it’s time to head to your final stop on the tour, Budapest. The city has gone on to become one of Europe’s top city break destination in recent years thanks to its stunning architecture and lively nightlife scene. The ‘ruin pubs’ such as Szimpla Kert are a must – these are super-cool bars that are set up in previously derelict buildings and the result is an incredible experience and atmosphere! After a long day of sightseeing, put your feet up at one of the city’s revered public baths and spas.

From Budapest you’ll be then back on your plane back home! This is a great opportunity to cross off some top city break destinations from your list and get a feel for all of the lively little hidden gems tucked away in Eastern Europe.
