Single traveller? Looking to explore somewhere new? Tight on budget? Be sure to take a little look at this nifty adventure to Tallinn and Riga, two wonderful cities that are bound to leave you with a smile on your face!

Solo Baltics Adventure

Not only are Riga and Tallinn two pretty cities, they’re also great for any budget-minded traveller out there. The price of accommodation is super reasonable, and once you’re there you’ll find that the cost of food and drink is also very much affordable, so don’t be afraid to treat yourself to a nice meal somewhere!

I’ve put this deal together using my Flight Finder and Hotels.com. The flights from this deal fly out to Tallinn, but you’ll be returning to Ireland from Riga. Transfers are not included in this deal, but as a means of getting between the two cities on the cheap I recommend taking the coach with Lux Express – there are loads of services each day and if you book online in advance you’ll avail of ridiculously cheap prices!

Tallinn, Estonia

Your first stop on your adventure is Tallinn, the Estonian capital. A cross-roads of culture, you’ll sense influences from Estonia’s Russian neighbours, as well as plenty of Scandi vibes from Sweden and Finland from across the other side of the Baltic Sea. Its historic centre is watched over by the beautiful palace and turrets perched up on top of Toompea Hill. Today this gorgeous historic landmark serves as the seat of the Estonian government. The city is dead compact so it’s a piece of cake to explore by foot. You’ll love the historic, wonky houses painted in all sorts of colours!

During your time in Tallinn you’ll be staying at the OldHouse Hostel, situated right in the heart of the city. You’ve got the Old Town’s bars and restaurants right at your doorstep, plus the hostel itself is super cosy. You’ll love that old-world vibe going on!

Riga, Latvia

Next up on your itinerary is Riga. Another small city that’s bursting with historic architecture, you’ll feel like you’re being whisked away to another era. From the top of St. Peter’s Church you’ll be able to enjoy panoramic views of the city, and next door you’ll find the ornate House of the Blackheads, a seat of wealth and high society for Medieval merchants. Wander the streets and you’ll come across all sorts of cosy, colourful architecture – and get a sense of the city’s modern culture that’s flourishing. Definitely make a little detour to the Kanepes Culture Centre for an evening of laid-back, alternative vibes and trendy crowds.

Your accommodation in Riga is the RigaApartments Gertruda, situated just to the north-east of the historic core in the Art Nouveau district. You pretty much just have to follow the main road outside and you’ll be in the Old Town in no time!
