Taste the Difference with Irish Whiskey

Experience the History of this Famous Tipple

Whether we like to admit it or not we Irish people know a thing or two about drinks! In the last few years, we have seen an explosion of choice in the Irish drinks market. From craft gin to craft beers the choices are sometimes nearly endless. However, in one particular field Irish craft has been sought after for hundreds of years.

Around the world, people enjoy Irish whiskey for its distinct flavor and high quality. It’s no wonder then that during Taste the Island there are plenty of great events where you can sample some of the best. Whether you’re a seasoned whiskey drinker or just interested in tasting there’s a huge opportunity here to get your lips around the worlds best. This comes as part of my Taste the Island theme month, so there are plenty of other guides to events if whiskey isn’t your thing.

Whisky Live Dublin

On November 22nd and 23rd you’ll have the chance to really dive headfirst into the wide world of whiskey. Taking place at the Printworks in Dublin castle you’ll find out all you’ve wanted to know about that famous beverage. There will be over 60 exhibitors at the event, all of which will provide a sample for you to tickle your tastebuds with. Of course, there will be a huge amount of Irish producers there ready to give you in-depth knowledge of the process of making some of the world’s best whiskey. Along with these fine Irish producers, you’ll also have producers from around the globe presenting too. It is organized by the Celtic Whiskey Shop on Dawson Street and they’ll be providing experts to answer all of your burning questions.

This is a ticketed event but with your ticket, you’ll be able to sample premium whiskeys so get ready for a great day of tasting! Each day of the event will have a dedicated time for tasting. So make sure you get there in plenty of time to not only sample some of your old favorites but get your lips around some new discoveries.

The tickets cost around €44 and I would consider that pretty reasonable considering you get to taste some of the best whiskeys in the world. If you’ve ever been hesitant about whiskey or just weren’t sure where to start then this event is perfect for you!

The Powers Quarter Gold Experience 1st September - 30th of November

Probably one of the most historic brands of whiskey in Ireland is powers. Its story is intertwined with that of Dublin. As part of Taste the Island, Powers have launched a new interactive tour between six bars in Dublin that each tells a different chapter in the story of Powers. The heritage of this brand stretches right back to 1791. The area where the original distillery was is Johns Lane. Around this first distillery, a town within a town grew up, providing amenities for the workers in it. You can opt for the guided tour, which will break down all of the ways in which the brand and its founder James Powers grew this iconic Irish drink. Another option is actually to download a virtual map and wander around this historic quarter for yourself. No matter which you choose this tour is guaranteed to be absolutely fascinating.
